Jordan offers an exceptional setting for a cycling journey that blends adventure with cultural discovery. This route takes you through fertile northern landscapes dotted with olive groves and hilltop villages, before continuing south into wide desert plains where remote communities and dramatic scenery define the horizon. Along the way, you’ll experience some of the country’s most iconic highlights — the ancient city of Petra, a night beneath the desert stars in Wadi Rum, and the unforgettable sensation of floating in the Dead Sea.
Your journey begins in Jordan’s vibrant capital, Amman, where you will check into your hotel and meet your tour leader. Upon arrival, settle in and take time to relax after your travels. Welcome information and essential details about the upcoming adventure will be available at the hotel, ensuring a smooth and comfortable start to your cycling experience.
After a welcome briefing, travel by vehicle (approximately 45 minutes) to the remarkably preserved Roman city of Jerash, once known as Gerasa. Wander through grand colonnaded streets, temples, and theatres that vividly reflect life in a thriving Roman provincial centre.
Following lunch, meet the cycling team and begin your first ride through the fertile foothills of the Jordan Rift Valley. The route follows quiet country roads and passes traditional villages, with mostly gentle descents and one longer climb. Support vehicles accompany the group throughout the ride.
At the end of the cycling segment, transfer to Madaba, renowned as the “City of Mosaics,” where you can enjoy dinner at one of the town’s many inviting restaurants or sample local sweets and coffee.
Begin the day in Madaba, home to remarkable Byzantine mosaics, including the famous 6th-century map of the Holy Land displayed in St. George’s Church.
A short transfer brings you to the start of today’s ride, which begins with a gradual 7 km ascent to Mount Nebo, traditionally associated with the burial place of Moses and offering sweeping views across the Jordan Valley. From the summit, enjoy a thrilling descent toward the shores of the Dead Sea, following a smooth coastal road to Suwaima.
Here, take time to relax and float in the mineral-rich waters at the lowest point on Earth. Afterward, continue by vehicle along the scenic King’s Highway for approximately three hours to reach Petra, with scenic stops along the way.
Spend the day discovering the extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra, the legendary Nabataean city carved into vibrant sandstone cliffs. Enter through the narrow Siq, where towering canyon walls lead dramatically to the iconic Treasury.
Continue exploring the vast archaeological site, including royal tombs, temples, and the ancient theatre. For panoramic views, there is an option to hike to the High Place of Sacrifice or climb approximately 800 steps to reach the impressive Monastery, one of Petra’s most striking monuments.
This morning, cycle north of Petra to Little Petra (Siq Al-Barid), an important Nabataean settlement believed to have served as a trading suburb of the main city.
Explore the narrow sandstone passage lined with rock-cut chambers, water channels, and ancient cisterns. Among the highlights are rare painted frescoes dating back to the 1st century AD. Return to Petra for another overnight stay.
Start early to take advantage of cooler morning temperatures. After a short transfer to Tayba Village, begin a rewarding ride through the rugged landscapes of southern Jordan.
The route travels through traditional Bedouin territory and descends gradually into the vast desert plains of Wadi Araba, passing remote settlements and dramatic scenery. This is the longest and most challenging cycling day, but also one of the most memorable.
After completing the desert crossing, transfer a short distance to the coastal city of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Aqaba, with time to swim, snorkel, or unwind on the beach. Entrance to a private beach facility is included, while snorkelling equipment is available for hire locally.
In the afternoon, transfer approximately 45 minutes outside the city before beginning your final cycling stage into the spectacular desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. This relatively flat ride showcases a different desert environment rich in history, famously associated with T.E. Lawrence and the Arab Revolt.
Tonight, experience traditional Bedouin hospitality with a local dinner and overnight stay in a desert camp beneath the star-filled sky.
After breakfast, explore the dramatic terrain of Wadi Rum on a guided 4x4 jeep excursion lasting around two hours. Discover towering sandstone formations, sweeping valleys, and iconic desert scenery.
Following lunch, travel back to Amman (approximately four hours) with a scheduled stop along the way.
Your cycling adventure concludes today in Amman. Depart at your convenience or continue your travels in Jordan.
